By 1987, Dale Earnhardt was well into his NASCAR career, having already won two of his eventual seven Winston Cup championships. His bold, fearless driving style was already beloved, but became immortalized that year at the 1987 Winston All-Star Race. Earnhardt maintained his lead at the Winston despite being forced into the grass; the “Pass in the Grass,” as it’s now known, would earn the eventual seven-time Cup champion the nickname “The Intimidator.”
